Profile

Tsb Sugar was founded as TSB in 1965 as a new venture in competition with the two then existing market leaders in South Africa.

Tsb Sugar produces refined and brown sugar which is exported and sold domestically. Approximately 50% of our sugar is marketed nationally under the brand name Selati and the rest is exported through the South African Sugar Association (SASA). Our first sugar mill in Malelane was commissioned in 1969. Tsb Sugar has grown tremendously since then, having a second sugar mill commissioned in 1994 near Komatipoort, a small town bordering Mozambique. Komati Mill is recognised as the most modern sugar factory in the Southern Hemisphere. The Malelane and Komati Mills together produce nearly half a million tons of sugar per annum, 18% of South Africa's annual sugar production.

Tsb Sugar, whose head office is in Malelane, employs approximately 2 400 people and provides farming support to over 1 400 commercial and small-scale farmers on 47 000 hectares of irrigated land. In turn, the farmers supply 80% of the sugar cane which is processed through the Malelane and Komati Mills.

Tsb Sugar is the single most important driver of the economy in the Nkomazi region. As such the company is relied upon to spearhead development in the local community.

The company recently changed it's identity from TSB (Transvaal Suiker Beperk) to Tsb Sugar in a bid to revitalise its image in line with the national and worldwide shifting trends in business operations.
