Komati

In 1991 Tsb Sugar was granted the right to set up a second mill. Tsb Sugar maintained the view that the mill should be built in an established cane production area. Komati Mill is situated 26 km from Komatipoort and was completed in 1994 with new generation equipment.

The original design of the factory was 1.15 million tons of cane with provision made for doubling this capacity. Capacity expansion projects took place in 1999 and 2006 to take the mill to its present crushing capacity is 2.6 million tons of cane over a 38 week period at an average rate of 500 tons per hour, producing 320 000 tons of raw sugar. This raw sugar is dispatched to Maputo Harbour for export and to Malelane Mill for refining.

Komati Mill is also currently the most sophisticated mill in the southern hemisphere.

Visits to the Komati Mill are organised through the Visitors Centre situated at the head office in Malalane.
