Malelane
At the time of it's completion in 1967, Malelane Mill was the most modern mill in the southern hemisphere. It has since undergone several capacity expansions over the past forty years and currently produces 237 000 tons of raw sugar per annum.
The raw mill produce brown sugar for the market place and the rest of the raw sugar is transferred to the refinery as melt. The raw sugar production capacity is 230 000 tons per annum and includes 100 000 tons of brown sugar.
The mill has a back-end refinery where raw sugar from both Malelane and Komati Mill is refined into top quality refined sugar. The refinery also operates during the off crop when the remaining raw sugar from Komati Mill is refined. Operating at full capacity, the refinery can refine 345 000 tons of sugar per annum, 85 000 tons of which is for export and the remainder for the local market.
Visits to the Komati Mill are organised through the Visitors Centre situated at the head office in Malalane.
