Pongola
Tsb Sugar expanded its milling operations in 2009 with the acquisition of Pongola Sugar Mill. The mill was established in 1954 by the Pongola Milling Company and over the years has changed ownership several times.
In a normal 39 week crop the mill produces approximately 140 000 tons of sugar at a crush rate of around 250 tons cane and 30 tons of sugar per hour.
The Pongola Mill also has a refinery and packaging plant on site.
Approximately 115 000 tons of sugar is refined into top quality white sugar and packaged in commodities ranging from 5 gram sachets to one ton bags for the industrial market. A small percentage of refined sugar is also exported. The remaining 25 000 tons of sugar is direct consumption brown sugar that is packaged for the local market.
