FRONT END ENGINEERPongola Mill - Closing 20 Jan 2010

Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working in the Engineering Department, the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Managing the maintenance and operations of the cane preparation, milling, steam generation, power generation and air supply sections of the Mill.
• Providing technical input for the setting up and optimisation of front-end and steam generation process equipment.
• Compiling and controlling maintenance,operational and capital budgets.
• Providing and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.

Applicants must have a BSc/BTech/NHD (Mechanical Eng) with a proven track record as an engineer in a similar environment, including 3 years in operating fossil or fibrous fuel-fired water tube boilers and 5 years in the maintenance management of heavy rotating and materials handling equipment. Education in GCC factories and an appropriate management qualification will be advantageous, as will previous sugar front-end maintenance and operations experience. Sugar manufacturing experience will also be beneficial. The role requires computer literacy in Windows (with a working knowledge of computerised planned maintenance systems), as well as knowledge of boiler water chemical treatment, the NOSA MBO safety, health and environmental system, and lubrication and welding technology. Knowledge of the relevant equipment is also required, as is formal training in the relevant fields, as well as in management.
